About Us
Meet the Hartnell Family. Orion, Nina, Dani & Sal.
We met late in our twenties and quickly found a common desire for quality food. We had both grown vegetables with our families while growing up and also enjoyed cooking. Orion mentioned he had always wanted to be a farmer and so a 5 year plan was created. The search began for land on the Southern Oregon Coast. We spent a lot of time growing vegetables while living in an apartment and sharing with family and neighbors. Orion was working his way up as a Finish Carpenter for a high end company in the LA area. Nina was working her way up as a Commercial Insurance Agent for a large Corporation in LA area. The stresses and pressures of both jobs was not fulfilling and we would never be able to buy property in LA or even California. Not paying too much attention to the timeline of our plan, we hit a wall and decided it was time to get out and take the leap. We signed on our first home in December 2018, 5 years after we said we wanted to farm.
We did not grow up farming and did not buy a property that had any current farm infrastructure. The desire to live in a small community of like minded people while working to provide for our family with so much more than money was the fuel to make our dream come true. The growth of gardens and animals have done so much for our little farm. We cannot thank our community enough for all the resource and support when we needed it.
We welcomed Dani Rose Hartnell in March 2021. We feel so grateful to teach her farm life and look forward to getting her more involved with everything we get to do. She does have an interest in animals and loves to be a good helper!
2026 Update:
Well, the farm has been growing...... crops, animals and our newest family member was born September 2024. Salvador Thomas Hartnell has completed our family. Both kids are living the dreamy and sometimes crazy farm life. Wouldn't have it any other way!!! Dani has had her hands in various tasks and is learning so much!
